SAS new Business sleeper seat, in full recline position

SAS has completed the introduction of the new Business Sleeper seats on its fleet of Airbus A340 and A330 aircraft, used on non-stop service from New York (Newark), Chicago, Seattle and Washington, D.C. to Copenhagen and Stockholm.

The new seats provide more than five feet (61 inches) of legroom, recline to 170 degrees and are 20 inches wide between the armrests, slightly wider when folded down into a bed. The seats feature a built-in storage bin suitable for a laptop computer and perhaps a water bottle.

In addition to enhanced comfort, the new seats offer several other improved features. The personal television is 10.4 inches, nearly 25% larger than previously, and includes audio and video on demand, allowing passengers to start, stop and pause movies and music whenever they wish.

The Business cabin has a 2x2x2 configuration, with a total of 46 seats on the A340-300s and 34 seats on the A330-300s.

SAS customer surveys reveal that passengers want more privacy onboard, as well as greater comfort and the ability to put their time to productive use. SAS VP The Americas Sveneric Persson said, “Our goal is to provide passengers with maximum comfort and privacy, and to help them make their time onboard SAS flights both relaxing and productive.”

SAS also has upgraded Economy Extra, its premium Economy service, starting on the ground with check-in at the Business Class counter, plus access to Fast Lane security (where available).

Economy Extra passengers sit in a separate cabin, with 35 seats in the A330s and 28 seats in the A340s. The seat pitch is 38 inches, and the seat is more than 18 inches wide between the armrests. Each seat has a power outlet for laptop computers, as in the SAS Business cabin. Economy Extra passengers also have access to the new in-flight entertainment system with individual video screens and audio and video on demand.
